About Us
The Friendship Fire & Hose Co has been serving and protecting the residents and businesses of the Greater Elizabethtown area since 1832.
The Department is staffed by over 60 professionally trained firefighters and fire police members who devote approximately 17,000 man hours every year to training and emergency services. The station is staffed completely by volunteers who willingly give up time with family, friends, and jobs to help protect the residents and businesses they serve. In 2010, the Department was the fifth busiest volunteer department in the County responding to over 700 calls.
The dedication of our volunteers enables a fast response to emergency calls. We respond to our calls with an average of 10 personnel. Our emergency response time is one of the fastest in the County. The average dispatch to on-scene time is 4 minutes for the Borough and 6 minutes to surrounding Townships. To further enhance the quality and promptness of our emergency services, we have several members who live at the station.
The mission of the Friendship Fire & Hose Co #1 …..
“to protect lives and property from the ravages of fire, flood, wind, injuries, and other dangers wherever our skills and equipment are needed.”
Quality Services We Provide
The Department responds to every type of emergency—structure fires, vehicle accidents, automatic alarms and rescues of people and animals. In addition to covering all of Elizabethtown Borough, our primary service area includes portions of Conewago, Mount Joy and West Donegal Townships. We also provide emergency services beyond our primary area as part of our county-wide mutual aid assistance to neighboring communities on larger scale incidents.
Our fire police respond to fire and accident calls to ensure public safety. Services are also provided to police departments and public service organizations for crowd control and public safety.
The public is always welcome to visit the station to learn more about the Department and what we do, to meet the firefighters, and to see the equipment. The Department also offers free fire prevention and safety training upon request.
Community Financial Support
The Department operates without a local fire tax! Our service level cannot be maintained without the generous donations of residents and businesses. In fact, over 56% of the Department’s funding comes from donations and fundraisers. The annual donation and fundraising goal is $110,000 and support from the community is essential.
We respectfully ask our fellow residents and businesses to give generously and we extend a heartfelt thanks to all who support our fundraising efforts throughout the year.
